The Ethics and Anti‑Corruption Commission (EACC) announced that it has recovered public land worth Ksh51 million in Nyali, Mombasa County, ending a 17‑year court dispute.
The parcel, identified as MN/I/2411, measures 0.514 acres and is owned by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA).
The recovery was achieved through an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) settlement reached on 21 September, under which the registered owner agreed to surrender the land back to the public.
The dispute originated in 2009 when the EACC filed civil proceedings at the Mombasa Environment and Land Court to retrieve the property, alleging illegal allocation in 2000.
Three individuals were named in the case, including a former Kuresoi Constituency MP, who was identified as the Commissioner of Lands responsible for the irregular allocation.
According to the commission, the former MP transferred the land to another party, who later became the registered owner before the ADR settlement forced its return.
The EACC stated that the reclaimed land will now be used for its original purpose under the KCAA, reinforcing public ownership of airport‑adjacent assets.
This recovery follows a previous EACC action in July 2025, when 1.73 acres of land at Moi International Airport valued at Ksh104 million were reclaimed after a court ruling.
The commission also indicated that it is pursuing twelve additional parcels excised from the airport, collectively estimated at over Ksh2.5 billion.
