The Ethics and Anti‑Corruption Commission (EACC) announced the recovery of government property valued at roughly KSh 40 million in Kakamega Town.

The recovered asset comprises a 1.05‑acre plot in Milimani, adjacent to Kakamega State Lodge, and three houses that were listed in the Government Building Register.

A consent order was adopted by Lady Justice A. Nyukuri on 22 September 2026, confirming the surrender of the land and houses to the State.

Under the agreement, former holder Macdonald Lijoodi Makaka relinquished all rights, title and interest in the property.

The court also instructed the Chief Land Registrar to cancel lease entries linked to Makaka, thereby restoring the land’s status as government‑owned.

EACC’s recovery suit, filed in Environment and Land Court case No. E009 of 2024, challenged the original allocation of the land, which had been reserved for government housing despite a 1992 allotment letter to Makaka.

The commission said it will pursue the cancellation of the unlawful title and ensure the property is re‑registered in the government’s name for public use.

EACC urged the public to verify land titles and confirm that properties are not reserved for public purposes before purchasing.
