The Ethics and Anti‑Corruption Commission (EACC) has taken back a 2.7‑acre playground used by Kanyiha, Lusigetti and Njumbi Primary Schools in Kikuyu after the Environment and Land Court at Thika ordered the reversal of a title issued to the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) Ruguthi Women’s Guild.

In a statement released on Monday, October 26, the commission said the court found the registration of the land in the guild’s name to be irregular and fraudulent, prompting the repossession.

The playground is classified as public land reserved for recreational and sports activities for the three primary schools, serving more than 1,300 pupils.

The court declared the allocation and registration of the land to the Women’s Guild illegal, null and void, confirming that the property is held in trust for the schools.

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) had previously filed a case challenging the reallocation, naming the EACC as an interested party.

EACC investigators demonstrated that the guild had never paid rent or purchase fees to Kiambu County Government, nor produced any offer, acceptance, or payment documentation for the land.

The commission welcomed the court’s directive, saying it safeguards a vital public facility for current and future generations and reaffirms its mandate to protect public property.
