The Ethics and Anti‑Corruption Commission (EACC) has secured the return of a 2.7‑acre parcel of land in Kikuyu, Kiambu County, after the Environment and Land Court in Thika ruled the registration to a church group was fraudulent.
The court delivered its judgment on 5 October 2026, declaring Title No. KARAI/KARAI/350 public land held in trust for Kanyiha, Lusigetti and Njumbi Primary Schools.
The registration of the parcel in the name of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) Ruguthi Women’s Guild was voided, with the court describing the allocation as null and illegal.
EACC investigators traced the land’s history to 1957, when the former Kiambu County Council earmarked it as a school playing field, and found no documentation of any offer, rent, or payment to the council by the women’s guild.
The case was initiated by the Law Society of Kenya, with the EACC joining as an interested party and presenting evidence that the land had always been intended for public use.
The ruling safeguards the playground for more than 1,300 pupils enrolled at the three primary schools, ensuring continued access to space for learning, sports and recreation.
EACC said it remains committed to protecting public property and preserving public resources for the benefit of all Kenyans.
