The second phase of Kenya's Digital Literacy Programme has delivered interactive smart boards and laptops to 329 junior schools across Kisii County’s 11 sub-counties.

Each school receives one interactive smart board and one laptop, totaling 658 devices for the 329 schools.

The distribution was showcased at the National Classroom Experience held at Kisii Comprehensive School, a day after President William Ruto launched a similar event in Trans Nzoia County.

A live link connected a Grade 7 class at Kisii Comprehensive School with schools in Siaya, Homa Bay, Migori, Nyamira, Vihiga and Busia, demonstrating cross‑county digital collaboration.

Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications Stephen Isaboke highlighted that the devices and connectivity aim to equip learners with skills for innovation and new opportunities.

The rollout is part of a broader national effort, with 250 kilometres of fibre‑optic cable installed in Kisii, linking 179 institutions and establishing 32 public Wi‑Fi hotspots.

A further 391 schools in the county are scheduled to receive digital equipment in the next phase, planned for February 2027.

The initiative aligns with the government’s digital transformation agenda, which seeks to embed technology in education and prepare learners for a digital economy.
