Denmark’s armed forces have published guidelines outlining when foreign nationals residing in the country may be called up for the annual Armed Forces Day conscription, which targets young people turning 18 in the relevant year.

The rules apply equally to men and women, regardless of Danish citizenship, but only to those who meet three specific conditions.

First, the applicant must hold a valid Danish residence and work permit; short‑term visitors or people without formal legal status are excluded.

Second, the individual must provide documented evidence of ties to Denmark, such as proof of long‑term residence or family connections.

Third, the applicant must either have already applied for Danish citizenship or intend to do so, linking eligibility to the citizenship process.

Those who satisfy all three criteria are treated on the same terms as Danish citizens during the assessment, which includes written applications, physical and psychological tests, and a language proficiency check.

The cut‑off date for the current cohort is 1 July 2025, meaning anyone turning 18 on or after that date must meet the outlined conditions to be considered for the call‑up.

The guidelines were posted on the Defence Careers section of the official Danish military website, providing the official source for the eligibility criteria.
