During a coastal tour, President Dr. William Ruto announced the start of phase two of the National Land Titling Programme, initiating the distribution of 300,000 title deeds to residents of Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu, Taita‑Taveta and Tana River counties.

At the Mama Ngina Waterfront Grounds in Mombasa, the president handed out 5,000 free title deeds to beneficiaries from the Dongo Kundu, Waitiki, Mwakirunge, Mikindani and Mafisini settlement schemes.

The phase is part of a broader plan to issue a total of 500,000 land ownership documents in the coastal region, aiming to address long‑standing squatter and land‑related challenges.

Mombasa politician and Nyali parliamentary aspirant Said Abdalla welcomed the initiative, describing it as a decisive step toward resolving historical land injustices and unlocking economic wealth for local communities.

Abdalla noted that formal title deeds will enable families to secure loans for development projects, improving livelihoods that have long been constrained by insecure tenure.

He also highlighted that squatters have faced decades of uncertainty, disputes and threats of eviction by private developers and land cartels, underscoring the urgency of the government’s intervention.

The National Land Titling Programme has already crossed a milestone of issuing over one million title deeds nationwide, reflecting the scale of the administration’s commitment to secure land ownership.
