Co-operative Bank of Kenya was honoured with the Leadership in Water Infrastructure and Finance Award at the Africa WaterCredits Forum 2026, recognizing its role in financing water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) initiatives.

The bank disclosed that it disbursed KSh4.39 billion in WASH financing from March 2023 to August 2026, surpassing its original target of KSh3 billion.

The award highlighted the Co-op A Maji product, a specialised financing solution for water supply, sanitation and hygiene infrastructure, covering equipment such as water tanks, solar pumps, connections, exhausters, bowsers and smart meters.

Co-op A Maji is aimed at individuals, micro, small and medium‑sized enterprises (MSMEs) and institutions that seek to invest in water and sanitation services across urban, peri‑urban and rural areas.

The product’s impact is linked to a three‑year partnership with Water.org, launched in 2023, which set out to mobilise over KSh3 billion for WASH financing and improve access for more than 110,000 people.

Co-op Bank Group Managing Director and CEO Gideon Muriuki said reliable water and sanitation remain key development priorities for Kenya and that innovative financing is essential to turn infrastructure plans into delivered services.
