Immigration Minister Metlege Diab announced on 16 October that Canada’s Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System will be overhauled, with changes taking effect on 3 November 2026.
Under the new framework, candidates who hold a qualifying high‑wage job offer in occupations such as engineering or electrical work will receive additional points toward their ranking.
Applicants with eligible Canadian work experience will also gain extra points, and all profiles already in the Express Entry pool will be automatically recalculated according to the revised scoring.
To benefit from the job‑offer points, candidates must update their Express Entry profiles before the 3 November deadline; otherwise the new points will not apply to their application.
IRCC warned that the automatic recalculation could take up to two weeks, during which invitation rounds will be paused.
A major administrative shift accompanies the points overhaul: the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) will no longer be required for qualifying job offers that seek Express Entry points or satisfy job‑offer conditions under the Federal Skilled Worker and Federal Skilled Trades programmes.
IRCC stressed that it will continue to verify the authenticity of job offers and maintain anti‑fraud safeguards despite the LMIA removal.
The reforms build on earlier adjustments, including targeted streams for medical doctors (December 2025) and category‑based selections for health care, skilled trades, research, transportation and education (February 2026).
IRCC framed the November changes as part of a broader effort to align immigration pathways with Canada’s evolving labour‑market needs and long‑term economic priorities.
