Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said Nyeri and Malindi will soon provide passport registration services, expanding the network beyond the existing regional locations.
The announcement followed a high‑level meeting with the Directorate of Immigration Services on 6 October, where Murkomen highlighted progress on the two new offices.
Kenya’s decentralisation programme already includes passport centres in Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret, Kericho, Embu, Bungoma, Kisii, Nakuru and Garissa.
At present, the Nyeri and Malindi sites offer limited immigration services, with full passport processing and biometric capture still routed to Nairobi.
Murkomen indicated that the two offices will be upgraded and equipped to provide complete passport services, including biometric capture, matching the capabilities of existing regional centres.
He added that the government is continuing to install electronic gates at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to speed up passenger processing.
Murkomen also noted that the National Employment Authority has been granted a desk at the Nairobi immigration office to assist the job export programme.
The cabinet secretary stressed that the rollout of full services in Nyeri and Malindi is part of the broader effort to bring essential documents closer to citizens’ homes.
