The bodies of Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo and his wife Lucy Muteke were moved from Doves Funeral Services to the couple’s Gletwin residence on Wednesday, October 7, where they will lie in state overnight.

A convoy of high‑end vehicles carried the remains, and the coffins were displayed with distinctive markings: Chivayo’s coffin bore the inscription “WMC 777” and was draped in the national flag, while Lucy’s was placed in a Mercedes‑Benz casket.

The burial is scheduled for Thursday, October 8, at Glen Forest Memorial Cemetery in Harare, where the two will be interred side by side.

Both perished in a helicopter crash on September 30, which also claimed the lives of security officer Senelisiwe Magagula and pilots Calvin Soda and Courage Mutavira.

The aircraft was flying from Gandami in Chikomba district to Marondera when it went down in misty conditions, and investigators have confirmed the bodies were completely burnt in the impact.

Family members said the remains will be buried without their heads, as extensive searches at the crash site failed to recover them.

Information Minister Zhemu Soda announced a full investigation under the Convention on International Civil Aviation and the Civil Aviation Act, with preliminary work completed and wreckage sent to Charles Prince Airport for forensic analysis.

A preliminary report, expected within 30 days, will examine the helicopter’s wreckage, weather conditions, maintenance records and crew documentation.
