Construction on the Blue Valley Affordable Housing Project began on 15 July 2024 and is slated for completion on 15 January 2026, with physical progress recorded at 88.2 percent.
The development comprises three main residential blocks – A, B and D – all of which have reached the roof stage, while 11th‑floor beams, reinforcement and casting works are finished.
Finishing works such as plastering, skimming, screeding, tiling, terrazzo, window glazing, door installation, electrical wiring and painting continue across the blocks, and the commercial component has completed foundation excavation, columns, walling, first‑floor slab casting and roofing.
Supporting infrastructure includes a completed borehole and two underground water tanks whose bottom and top slabs are now in place.
Local youth have benefited from on‑site training; Cyrus Wambugu arrived as a general labourer and is now a trained carpenter who has also learned masonry and precast techniques.
Wambugu says the skills acquired provide a more reliable income than the short‑term moving jobs that previously earned him about Sh1,000 per week with no guarantee of repeat work.
The steady employment has also enabled Wambugu to start a family, illustrating the broader social impact of the project on workers’ livelihoods.
Workers note that the scale of the Blue Valley development exceeds previous construction projects in Nyeri, giving them exposure to large‑scale building techniques they had not seen before.
Wambugu emphasizes that the project's value lies in continued opportunities for skill acquisition and hopes training will extend into later phases.
