Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl confirmed on Wednesday that head coach Vincent Kompany has been discharged from hospital after doctors identified meningeal irritation as the cause of his collapse.

The 40‑year‑old Belgian manager was admitted on Friday after collapsing on Bayern’s training pitch in Munich, an incident initially described by the club as a viral infection.

Eberl told German broadcaster ARD that medical staff had pinpointed the underlying condition and cleared Kompany to return home for continued rehabilitation.

According to Eberl, rehabilitation will involve rest and medication, and he expressed confidence that Kompany will soon be back on the touchline at full capacity.

Bayern had previously indicated that Kompany’s return to coaching would take "weeks, not days," with English assistant Aaron Danks covering duties during his absence.

After Bayern’s 3‑1 victory over Freiburg on Sunday, Danks said the coaching staff would avoid discussing football matters with Kompany while he recuperates at home.

Concerns about Kompany’s health had risen after he appeared ill and limped on the touchline during Bayern’s 6‑1 win over RB Leipzig in mid‑October, and despite doubts, he coached the 2‑2 Champions League draw with Arsenal two days before his collapse.
