Eddie, a trained and certified teacher, abandoned a security job in Qatar and returned to Baringo County, where he has started two businesses and re‑connected with his family.
He arrived in Qatar around the time the country hosted the FIFA World Cup and worked in the security sector, where shifts were long and overtime compensation was inadequate.
Living in crowded labour camps, Eddie described his daily routine as feeling like a zombie, with little personal freedom and limited time beyond work and sleep.
Loneliness and the physical toll of the job led him to question whether the work was worth the sacrifice.
Motivated by a desire to be present for his daughter, Jojo, and his mother, Eddie chose to return to Kenya.
Roughly a year after his return, he launched Looney Events and Looney Furniture in Marigat.
He also runs a digital channel, Eddie Tricks Vlogs, where he documents his experiences and encourages other Kenyans abroad to consider entrepreneurship at home.
Eddie acknowledges that rebuilding financially in Kenya has been challenging, but says the peace of mind and proximity to family make the trade‑off worthwhile.
