Apple is slated to announce its first touchscreen MacBook Pro on Wednesday 28 October 2026, according to industry leaker Mark Gurman.
The new 14‑inch and 16‑inch models will replace the current mini‑LED panels with OLED screens that support touch input, and the notch will be replaced by a Dynamic Island cut‑out similar to iPhone designs.
Both laptops are expected to be lighter than the existing versions, though Apple has not released official weight figures; the current 14‑inch model weighs 1.60 kg and the 16‑inch 2.14 kg.
The devices will retain the M5 Pro and M5 Max processors introduced in March, meaning performance should be comparable to the current models despite the new screen and touch features.
Apple’s US store lists the 14‑inch M5 Pro model at USD 2,499 (≈ KES 324,000) and the 16‑inch at USD 2,999 (≈ KES 389,000); the OLED versions could cost up to USD 500 more, putting the 16‑inch at about USD 3,499 (≈ KES 454,000).
Apple has already raised prices for the current models earlier in the year, citing higher memory and storage costs, and the OLED premium adds the cost of the new display and lighter chassis.
macOS 27, dubbed “Golden Gate”, will include an interface that adapts to touch input, altering controls, the Dock and menu bar when the screen is touched and reverting when using the trackpad.
Apple will allow invited media to handle the laptops from 10 am Pacific time in Los Angeles, providing a first look at the hardware and software changes.
The existing mini‑LED MacBook Pros will remain on sale for now and will be phased out later, giving buyers a choice between the established models and the new OLED touch versions.
In Kenya, Apple does not sell Macs directly; the new models will arrive through local retailers who typically price them above the US list price, as seen with the current 16‑inch model listed at KES 405,000.
