Amsons Group has agreed to purchase the downstream oil business of Geneva‑based Oryx Energies in Tanzania in a transaction valued at more than US$230 million.

The acquisition will transfer Oryx Energies’ Tanzanian downstream assets – including retail service stations, storage terminals and distribution infrastructure – to Amsons Group.

The deal is part of Oryx Energies’ broader review of its downstream assets across Africa and will only be finalised after regulatory approvals and other customary conditions are met.

Until the transaction is completed, Oryx Energies will continue to operate its Tanzanian business as usual.

Amsons Group Managing Director Edha Nahdi said the purchase will expand the group’s footprint in energy and logistics, strengthening domestic fuel security and positioning Tanzania as a regional hub for East and Central Africa.

Oryx Energies CEO Moussa Diao described the agreement as a milestone, noting that Amsons Group is well placed to advance the business and create opportunities for employees, customers and partners.

Post‑acquisition, Amsons Group’s fuel storage capacity is projected to rise from 300,000 to 800,000 metric tonnes, and its retail network could grow to roughly 300 service stations across several countries.

The transaction includes Oryx’s bulk storage terminals, retail stations and equity stakes in strategic fuel hub partnerships such as the Tanzania International Petroleum Reserve (TIPER) in Dar es Salaam.

Amsons Group’s recent regional expansion includes the acquisition of Mbeya Cement in Tanzania, buy‑out offers for Bamburi Cement and East African Portland Cement in Kenya, and a planned 1,000‑megawatt solar project in Zambia.
