Agnes Kagure, a businesswoman and leader of the Kenya Patriots Party (KPP), signalled her intention to run for Nyeri governor in the 2027 General Election.

The announcement was accompanied by a series of billboards across Nyeri county displaying the slogan “Nyeri Governor 2027,” marking the start of a county‑wide leaders’ tour.

Kagure’s team told TUKO.co.ke that the shift from Nairobi to Nyeri was driven by demand from religious leaders, professionals and youths in the county.

She posted on Facebook on October 29, indicating the change of focus after years of building a political following in Nairobi, and highlighted a meeting with Nyeri‑based Bishop Kariuki as a moment of reflection.

Kagure documented a stop in Mukurweini on October 31, describing it as the first stage of her leaders’ tour, where she met senior chief Wanjau, Deputy Governor David Kinaniri, MP John Kaguchia and MCA Wakabaire.

The KPP billboards also urge residents to dial *386# to join the party under the tagline “Umoja Wa Wakenya,” indicating organisational groundwork ahead of a possible formal nomination.

Kagure’s withdrawal from the Nairobi gubernatorial contest clears part of that race while opening a fresh contest in Nyeri, where competition for the 2027 seat is still emerging.
