The Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi (AKUH,N) inaugurated a dedicated Fertility Centre at its Peponi Specialty and Executive Clinic in Westlands, expanding specialised reproductive care in the region.
Designed as a one‑stop clinic, the centre serves individuals and couples experiencing primary or secondary infertility and those wishing to preserve fertility before medical treatments such as chemotherapy.
A multidisciplinary team of fertility specialists, embryologists and support staff provides a complete continuum of diagnostic assessments and advanced assisted reproductive technologies (ART).
Core clinical offerings include ovulation induction, intrauterine insemination (IUI), in‑vitro fertilisation (IVF), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) and fertility‑preservation procedures.
Eligibility requires a thorough clinical evaluation of both partners from the outset, reflecting the centre’s policy that infertility can stem from either male or female factors.
Female assessments focus on age‑related changes, ovulatory disorders, tubal blockage, uterine fibroids, endometriosis and polycystic ovary syndrome, while male diagnostics address low sperm count, motility, morphology and hormonal or anatomical issues.
The centre also integrates psychological support and transparent guidance throughout treatment cycles, aiming to empower patients with autonomy over their reproductive choices.
According to the World Health Organization, about one in six people of reproductive age worldwide experience infertility, underscoring the demand for comprehensive services such as those now available at AKUH’s new facility.
