Absa Bank Kenya issued a statement congratulating Athletics Kenya, the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports and Kenyan athletes for securing Nairobi’s successful bid to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships.

The bank said the victory reflects decades of athletic excellence and reinforces Kenya’s standing among the world’s leading athletics nations.

Nairobi’s bid prevailed over competing proposals from Rome, Italy and London, United Kingdom, while Munich secured the 2031 edition.

Absa’s investment in Kenyan sport

Absa Bank Kenya has invested close to KES 2 billion in the Kenyan sports ecosystem, including title sponsorship of the Absa Kip Keino Classic, a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting that has showcased Nairobi’s capacity to host world‑class events across six editions.

The bank also backs the Absa Sirikwa Classic Cross Country, a World Athletics Gold Level event held at Lobo Village in Eldoret.

Beyond event sponsorship, Absa runs financial‑literacy programmes at training camps to help athletes manage earnings and plan for long‑term financial security.

Details of the 2029 Championships

The 22nd edition of the World Athletics Championships is scheduled for September 2029 at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani.
