The Central Bank of Kenya approved the appointment of Mr. Abdi Mohamed as chief executive officer of I&M Bank Kenya, with the role taking effect on Monday, 5 October 2026.
Mr. Mohamed joins the bank at a pivotal stage in its growth, bringing more than three decades of experience across banking, financial services and corporate leadership.
In his new capacity, he will steer strategic direction for the Kenyan business, focusing on strengthening customer relationships, driving sustainable growth and supporting the bank’s ongoing transformation.
Group Executive Director Sarit Raja Shah said the board is confident that Mohamed’s extensive banking background and regional insight will be instrumental in guiding the bank through its next phase of expansion.
Upon his arrival, Mohamed expressed honour at joining I&M Bank Kenya, highlighting the institution’s strong heritage, talented staff and deep customer relationships as foundations for future value creation.
He previously served as Country CEO and Managing Director of Absa Bank Kenya, where he led growth and transformation initiatives for the subsidiary.
Interim CEO Kihara Maina will resume his role as Regional CEO of I&M Group following Mohamed’s appointment.
