Co-operative Bank of Kenya has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting community development and national institutions by sponsoring the upcoming National Police Service Annual Athletics Championship with Ksh.500,000.
The bank’s Head of Consumer Banking, Mr. Jackson Muendo, officially handed over the sponsorship cheque to Inspector General of Police Mr. Douglas Kanja (MGH, CBS, OGW) in a brief ceremony held yesterday.
The annual athletics championship, slated for 3rd–4th June 2025, brings together officers from across the country to compete in various track and field events, fostering unity, discipline, and physical fitness within the National Police Service (NPS).
“We are proud to partner with the National Police Service in promoting sports and wellness among our law enforcement officers,” said Mr. Muendo. “This sponsorship is part of Co-op Bank’s broader commitment to community support and nation-building.”
The Inspector General lauded the bank for its consistent backing of police initiatives, noting that such collaborations not only enhance police morale but also demonstrate corporate Kenya’s growing appreciation for the service and sacrifice of security personnel.
Over the years, the National Police Service Athletics Championship has produced elite athletes who go on to represent Kenya in international competitions, including the Olympics and World Championships. The event is a crucial platform for nurturing talent and encouraging camaraderie among officers.
Co-operative Bank’s support signals more than just financial contribution—it reflects the institution’s dedication to nurturing excellence beyond banking.
The two-day event will be held at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, and is expected to draw participation from all NPS formations, including the Kenya Police Service, Administration Police, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
For Co-op Bank, whose customer base includes thousands of police officers and civil servants, this initiative strengthens its long-standing relationship with Kenya’s disciplined forces.
